I-Kanda Architects is an award-winning architectural design practice founded by Isamu & Marley Kanda, following graduation from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
The firm creates buildings and spaces that are modern yet enduring – equal parts purpose and sculpture. The firm embraces typologies ranging from Back Bay penthouses to lofty barn conversions, mountain-side cabins to indoor residential pools. Each project is treated as a new array of needs and desires out of which to conceive uniquely enhanced solutions.
Isamu’s motivation stems from an ongoing experimentation with how to shape geometry, structure, light and circulation to inspire elevated interactions with our surroundings and each other. In his free time, he enjoys juggling 2 young sons, renovating their 1850’s townhouse, and riding Japanese motorcycles.
Marley’s motivation lies in discovering how buildings live, breathe, and are experienced through ever-evolving combinations of art, objects, materials, and sequencing. Marley is also expanding the firm’s repertoire as a licensed real estate agent in Massachusetts. In her remaining free time, she enjoys juggling 3 boys, fashion, traveling, running, and yoga.
