Hawthorn Builders is an award-winning luxury home builder and renovation company serving Greater Boston since 2005. Founded by neighbors Mathew Roth and Ryan McDonnell, the company began with a simple belief: that the best homes are built by people who genuinely care — about craftsmanship, about their clients, and about each other.

What started with a single teardown in Needham has grown into a portfolio of over 250 custom homes and renovations across communities including Boston, Cambridge, Brookline, Newton, Wellesley, Weston, and the South Shore. Hawthorn has earned recognition as a Best of Boston Home® winner and is known for delivering projects that are as beautiful as they are well-built.

Hawthorn's comprehensive Design-Build approach brings architects, designers, and builders into alignment from the very start — reducing friction, protecting budgets, and ensuring every decision serves the homeowner's vision. In fact, the company has consistently delivered projects within 1% of budget estimates over the last five years.

Beyond new construction and renovations, Hawthorn offers a full suite of services including sustainable and net-zero building, ADUs, and ongoing Home Care subscription services for long-term property maintenance.

At the heart of everything is what Hawthorn calls the Hawthorn Difference — a commitment to transparency, accountability, and a client experience that's collaborative from first conversation to final walkthrough. The team believes that building a home is an emotional investment, not just a financial one, and they've refined their process over two decades to reflect that.
