Designed to Endure
Set within a pastoral landscape bordered by protected town land and a neighboring golf course, this passive home reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, timeless design, and multigenerational living. Designed by ZeroEnergy Design (ZED) and built by Star Contracting Company, the residence reimagines traditional New England agrarian architecture through a contemporary lens, balancing familiar forms with innovative, high-performance solutions. Purposefully designed for aging in place, the primarily single-level home combines open, light-filled living spaces with carefully considered private retreats and recreation areas. Achieving PHIUS ZERO certification, the all-electric home produces more energy than it consumes through a high-performance envelope, rooftop solar array, battery storage, and advanced heat pump systems. Strategies to reduce embodied carbon, including wood fiber insulation, minimized concrete, and wood-forward structural systems, further reinforce its environmental goals. Through close collaboration and meticulous planning, the project demonstrates how beauty, resilience, and exceptional building performance can coexist, creating a home designed to enrich family life and endure for generations.
