Woodmeister Master Builders: Celebrating 45 Years of Craftsmanship

Woodmeister Master Builders celebrates 45 years of high-end residential construction.

With a 45-year legacy, Woodmeister Master Builders remains the gold standard in high-end residential construction—celebrated for detailed craftsmanship, attentive client care, and thoughtful evolution.

Now under the leadership of CEO Heather Goodnow, the firm is honoring its founding values while repositioning for a new chapter—reaffirming its principles, expanding capabilities, developing strong partnerships, and looking ahead with purpose.

Founded by Heather’s father, Ted Goodnow, Woodmeister began as a small millwork shop with a modest savings account and a set of tools. Today, it’s a nationally respected, full-service builder with more than 120 employees and three core divisions: millwork, general contracting, and exclusive post-construction services.

Yet Woodmeister’s spirit remains rooted in family. “This business is like my oldest sibling,” says Heather. “I do feel like I’ve spent my entire life training for this.” As Ted passed the baton to Heather in 2023, she continues to lead the company with reverence, unwavering resolve, and a clear vision for its future.

“People over profits,” Heather says, quoting one of her father’s enduring principles. “Having a happy client and client experience is always going to be more important to me than having a higher profit.” That ethos extends inward, too—shaping a tight-knit culture of artisans, designers, and managers, many of whom have been with the company for decades.

Heather has worked in nearly every vertical within Woodmeister—from HR to field operations. “The only place I haven’t actually worked with my hands, is on the shop floor,” she adds, though she often helped her father there after hours. Her leadership reflects continuity and meaningful evolution.

“We’re constantly morphing…slowly and very thoughtfully,” Heather says. Alongside streamlining systems and embracing new technologies, Woodmeister recently introduced a refined brand identity—including a new logo, typography, and website—to reflect its expanding portfolio and modern leadership voice. “It reflects a modern take on a traditional company,” says Bill Andrews, Director of Business Development & Marketing. The refreshed branding reflects the dynamic nature of Woodmeister’s current portfolio, which includes innovative construction methods, nationwide projects, and building custom homes in the suburbs and throughout the city of Boston, including in contemporary high-rise buildings.

At its core, Woodmeister remains deeply rooted in craftsmanship. “Most other builders think from the outside in,” Heather explains. “But those things are inextricably linked. Our inside-out approach comes from our roots in millwork.” This integrated approach is one of the company’s strongest assets. “We’re not just millworkers,” Heather emphasizes. “We’re also custom home builders, partners, and artisans at every scale.”

Their White Glove Process, created by Owner and family matriarch Kim Goodnow, exemplifies this commitment. “We check every single detail of the project,” Heather says. “And it’s done at the highest level of the organization.” The process happens before the punch list, allowing the team to proactively resolve any issues ahead of turning the project over to the client.

Whether working with homeowners or design professionals, Heather highlights one core value: “We ask a lot of questions and we do a lot of listening,” she says. “We treat our collaborators the same way that we would treat our clients because they are our clients.” Looking ahead, the firm is committed to expanding its design partnerships, workforce development and preserving traditional trades.

“Every day is a new challenge,” Heather says. “I think we’re all addicted to problem-solving here.”  As the company continues to grow and evolve, one thing remains clear: Woodmeister is as dedicated to the people it serves and employs as it is to the craft it delivers.
