The Rivershops Mattapoisett, a multi-faceted interior design group and home to Surroundings Interior Design, has officially announced the acquisition of The Mainland Connection. This strategic move integrates one of the region’s most established white-glove moving and receiving companies – serving the Cape and Islands since 1982 – into The Rivershops’ existing suite of services.
The acquisition provides a cohesive, fully integrated logistics solution with a specialized focus on Nantucket’s unique requirements. By bringing Mainland Connection’s 40-plus years of experience under its “seamless umbrella,” The Rivershops seeks to elevate the regional design experience by merging procurement, logistics, and installation into a single professional stream.

A New Standard for “White-Glove” Service
For the professional design community, the transition from creative concept to physical installation is often fraught with logistical friction. The Rivershops’ expanded white-glove service addresses this by managing the entire project lifecycle – from initial receiving and meticulous inspection to problem-solving and final placement.
“It just made sense to bundle the services together so designers can work with one point of contact from procurement all the way through installation,” says Nicole Klein, Owner and Creative Director of The Rivershops.
This structure gives furniture companies and interior designers full visibility into their projects through systematic tracking, allowing them to coordinate with clients and contractors more efficiently.

40 Years of Heritage Meets Corporate Precision
What distinguishes the combined Rivershops and Mainland Connection team is a foundational background that blends decades of local experience with high-level corporate expertise. While Mainland Connection brings a legacy of island logistics dating back to 1982, the current leadership team offers professional roots in strategy, operations, and compliance.
This unique combination brings a level of project management precision and professionalism that is rare in the moving industry. This refined approach is particularly critical when navigating the specific logistical constraints of Nantucket Island. Leveraging longstanding relationships and four decades of access to the Steamship Authority, The Rivershops is uniquely positioned to meet demanding project timelines that other groups often struggle to match.

Streamlining the Creative Process
At its core, this expansion gives designers back time and focus. By providing a single, dedicated point of contact for order tracking and installation coordination, The Rivershops aims to relieve the administrative pressure that often hinders the creative process.
“We take care of the logistics – the parts designers don’t love – so they can focus on the creative,” Klein explains. “Our goal is simple: make the entire process easier, more organized, and more enjoyable from start to finish”.
