Matthew Cunningham Elevated to ASLA Council of Fellows

MCLD recognized with high honors.

Matthew Cunningham, Founder of Matthew Cunningham Landscape Design (MCLD), has been elevated to the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Council of Fellows, one of the highest honors bestowed within the profession.

“What an absolute privilege to share this extraordinary experience with such an unbelievably talented and inspiring group of accomplished professionals. I’m so very grateful to every single person who has helped me along the way,” Cunningham shared on Instagram.

Fellowship in the ASLA recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to landscape architecture and society at large through their work, leadership, knowledge, and service. The honor is reserved for ASLA members in good standing for at least ten years who are nominated by their local chapter or the ASLA Executive Committees.

This honor reflects Cunningham’s enduring impact on the profession, his commitment to design excellence, and his influence in shaping outdoor spaces that honor both people and place. As a leader in the industry, he is reshaping the landscape of residential design, literally and figuratively. His award-winning work reveals how site-specific, ecologically minded design can extend beyond property lines to enrich entire communities and local ecosystems.

Through his projects, teaching, and public dialogue, Cunningham is a leading voice in reimagining the relationship between people and the land, showing how a collection of thoughtful landscapes can contribute to a healthier planet. His work celebrates biodiversity, nurtures meaningful connections to nature, and invites people to live more fully outdoors.
