Ligne Roset, the renowned French furniture and lifestyle company, is proud to announce the recognition of the Ploum sofa, designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, by the 2011 GOOD DESIGN Awards. Founded in Chicago in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., GOOD DESIGN bestows international recognition upon the world's most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary, and innovative product concepts, invention and originality, and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered ordinary product and consumer design.
The Ploum seating is the fruit of much research into comfort. The result is a special combination of two materials: a stretchable covering and ultra-soft foam. This combination, along with the Ploum sofa’s truly ample dimensions, provides extreme comfort and accommodates different ways of sitting, stretching out or even lying down. The seat of the sofa can accommodate up to 4 people. The great flexibility of contact associated with a freely-formed shape turn Ploum into a veritable nest: in fact, all positions are possible here, with both back and head enjoying the same soft contact, no matter which part of the seat is concerned, even the arms.
“Ligne Roset is honored to be recognized with a 2011 GOOD DESIGN Award, said Antoine Roset, CEO of Roset USA. We would like to thank the Bouroullec brothers for such an exciting and original project and the Chicago Athenaeum for recognizing the creativity and innovative spirit of Ligne Roset.
Now in its 61st year, the GOOD DESIGN Awards remains the oldest and most recognized program for design excellence worldwide, conferred annually by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design together with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. In November, the judges met and selected over 500 product designs and graphics from over 35 nations based on innovation, form, materials and construction, concept, function, utility, and aesthetic appeal. Ploum will be featured with other award recipients on the Chicago Athenaeum website at www.chi-athenaeum.org.
