The Earl Major Estate was built in the early 1930’s and sits on 1.8-acres. The new homeowners were planning an addition that would involve outdoor entertaining, pool and sweeping lawn space for recreational activities. When Dan K. Gordon Landscape Architects arrived at the estate, the landscape had fallen into disrepair and the steeply sloped landscape was overgrown. As lead design consultant for all site improvements, the final result is a stunning landscape that looks like it has always been there.

The front exterior of the home has a modified quatrefoil arrival court that features a custom paving pattern and banding, and a new side garden that has a bluestone ellipse and landscape.

The home’s rear exterior has a several-level grading plan that creates a sweeping landscape. An intimate dining terrace adjacent to the home overlooks a new parterre garden.

Down one more level is the new pool, surrounded by separate gathering spaces and descending graded lawn. In addition, a new formal lawn adjacent to the living room is tightly framed in a tall yew hedge.
