Cumar: The Art of Seamless Stone Fabrication

In the world of luxury design, few elements make as bold a statement as a striking stone. For decades, Cumar has been the premier resource for high-end marble and stone fabrication, offering a legacy of expertise, craftsmanship, and excellence. In a recent project—a speakeasy-style lounge—curated design selections are elevated by a custom fireplace surround and matching backsplash. Sourced and fabricated by Cumar, the Dark Confusion marble duo offers a dynamic dose of color and texture.

The hallmark of Cumar’s expertise lies in its precise fabrication process, ensuring that each installation appears seamless and integrated. “We’ve worked hard to develop strategies for crafting intricate fireboxes out of slabs, ensuring a continuous, layered-free look,” says Carlotta Cubi Mandra, President of Cumar. 

For this project, two slabs of Dark Confusion marble were used: a full slab for the bar backsplash and custom-cut pieces for the fireplace surround, both with a honed finish. The marble, initially purchased from a vendor in Tulini, Italy, originates from exclusive quarries, making each slab truly unique.  

Unlike many fabricators, Cumar brings in its own inventory, creating a one-stop shop for high-end materials. This approach not only ensures quality control but also allows for detailed customization at an exceptional level. “Our cutters aren’t just machine operators—they’re artisans. They find ways to improve layouts and enhance the final product in ways that may not have been obvious on paper,” Cubi Mandra explains. “Every project is an opportunity to innovate.”
