California Closets hosts New York Times Bestselling Author Erin Gates as part of Boston Design Week 2015
During Boston Design Week, California Closets hosted Erin Gates, a New York Times Best Selling Author, for a sold-out Book Signing. Long time fans of the Elements of Style blog chatted with the wildly popular Boston-based interior designer at the recently-renovated California Closets Flagship Brighton Showroom. Last May, California Closets celebrated 10 years at the 4,500 sq.ft. location on 1660 Soldiers Field Road in Brighton.
For many local businesses the idea was to ‘Go Big, or Go Home’ during Boston Design Week, and California Closets jumped in with both feet. Let’s face it – Boston was ready for something else to talk about, besides breaking snowfall records, and the 60-plus events offered a glimmer of hope after a long winter. California Closets was the only Boston Design Week sponsor to promote the event on broadcast TV.
“Design can sometimes be intimidating, but Erin Gates makes it approachable through her blog and in her book” said Laura Stafford, California Closets marketing manager. “Last September we worked with Erin Gates to design and install a master bedroom California Closet in her own home”, said Stafford, “partnering with her for a book signing during Boston Design Week was a perfect fit.”
The sold-out event lived up to the hype of “Boston Design Week: 10 Events You Don’t Want To Miss” by InCollect and the Antiques and Fine Art Magazine. Guests were welcomed with personalized “VIP” Name Badges inspired by the Gates’ iconic black and white book cover. Fans posed for photos with Erin at the ‘red carpet style’ step-and-repeat photo banner, mingled in the newly expanded and design center, and browsed 16 new displays. The scene included party must-haves: a great space, on-trend playlist, refreshing drinks, and bite-sized appetizers that included sliders and mini whoopie pies.
“Elements of Style fans were able to get personalized advice about their own projects from their design icon” said Stafford, “Erin Gates took time with each guest to answer design dilemmas and any questions they had.”
Boston Home Magazine named California Closets “Best of Boston” in 2012, and Northshore Magazine named California Closets “Best of the Northshore” in 2014. Today California Closets New England has 8 local showrooms and installs more than 3,000 custom systems each year, locally employing more than 100 people throughout New England.
