STONE CURATORS: 2025 Stone Trends

STONE TRENDS PREDICTIONS for 2025 from STONE CURATORS!

Every year offers new inspiration from each project we see and the stones we select. As we look back, we have noticed some interesting trends die and prevail. Our unique position between our global stone selection and your visionary plans allows us to foresee how stone may be sourced, designed, and installed in the coming year.

With that in mind, we compiled a list of what Stone Curators believes will be the Top 5 Stone Trends for 202, including our prediction for Stone of the Year.

01 WEATHERED + WORN:

Capturing the Beauty of Reclaimed

Reclaimed stone isn’t just about sustainability—it’s about the beauty and history embedded in each piece. For entryways and driveways, preserving the natural patina creates a first impression that can’t be replicated. Repurposing these stones, whether by cutting them into striking front steps or unique focal points, gives them a second life. At Stone Curators, we specialize in sourcing these one-of-a-kind materials and finding creative ways to showcase their story and timeless beauty.

02 REIMAGINING COBBLE:

What’s Old is New

Cobblestone’s history is often tied to historic streets, but today, its use is being reimagined in modern ways. In Germany, we saw a shift beyond the classic running bond pattern, with oversized reclaimed cobbles and sleek rectangular shapes making bold statements. Smaller cube and rectangle cobbles allow for organic, intricate patterns, like a fanned-out design in an arrival court. These variations create distinct moods, from expansive and modern to intricate and unexpected.

03 WARMER GRAYS:

Welcoming Tones

Gray has evolved from a cool, modern neutral to warmer tones that marry up well with the landscape. In stone design, we’re seeing an increased demand for these inviting textures in entryways and pool decks. During our travels to Italy, we observed rising popularity in stones like Pietra Italia, Veneto Olivio, and Highland Limestone. Their color spectrum, ranging from subtle browns to rich red-grays, adds depth and warmth for a less sterile look.

04 MAXIMIZING FLOW:

Transitional & Expansive Stone Spaces

While this trend isn’t tied to a specific stone, it focuses on smooth indoor-outdoor transitions and large-scale continuity. Designers achieve this by maintaining a consistent material while adjusting finishes—smooth for interiors and slip-resistant for exteriors. Ensuring exterior stone is freeze/thaw resistant adds both practicality and longevity. To enhance these transitions, we seek out uniquely sized stones, either custom-cut for precision or left with natural edges for a distinctive, organic look.

05 TREND FORECAST:

The Stone of the Year

We’re excited about all of these emerging trends, but one stone we anticipate seeing a lot of in 2025 is Pietra Italia. This quarried European gneiss from Italy features a gray base with warm undertones of beige, blue, brown, and rust. Its fine speckled patterns create a rich, inviting look for both indoor and outdoor applications. While it comes at a higher price point, its versatility and timeless appeal make it a standout choice for commercial and residential projects.
