Founded in 1992, LDa Architecture & Interiors has provided award-winning design solutions for a wide range of clients throughout New England, practicing in the residential, interior design, commercial, cultural and academic sectors. The firm works throughout New England and the Cape, and has extended their reach to select projects across the country. Their team of four principal architects includes Douglas E. Dick, Treffle LaFleche, John Day, and Kyle Sheffield.
LDa offers sustainable architecture and interior design services for new builds and renovations of all sizes. LDa is committed to sustainable design and has completed over a dozen projects to LEED standards, with all four principals being LEED Accredited Professionals. The firm’s portfolio has proven their ability to provide elegant and cost effective design solutions that are also sustainable and mindful of the greater environment. In speaking with principals Doug Dick and Treff LaFleche, their philosophy makes it clear that an inspiring design is one that not only achieves the goals and aspirations of the homeowner, but is also forward thinking and sustainable.
“A high quality house is not just a beautiful house to look at. It’s also a house that is energy efficient and friendly toward the planet,” says Doug. “Our thought is that if you are building a home that is well-designed and of good quality, energy efficiency is just part of the right solution. It doesn’t really preclude any particular architectural style or interior decor or exterior appearance. It’s a matter of doing it right, and being dedicated to a certain level of performance.”
From conception to completion, LDa emphasizes the importance of designing with the future in mind, for the benefit of the environment as well as the longevity of the structure itself. “We try to encourage our clients to future proof as much as they can, because it effectively leads to a more durable and enduring structure,” says Treff. “We as designers strive for that sweet spot of achieving the best energy use and creating designs that inspire.”
As technology evolves at a rapid rate, the architects at LDa harness the power of technology to support both the environment and the desired lifestyle of the client. “As architects, the key is having technology serve the people that are using it,” says Doug. “That’s what we do as architects. We understand and use technology in a way that lets people live the way they want to live.”
The topic of sustainability and energy efficiency in design continues to gain traction, and continues to shape the way LDa approaches their projects. “Each and every generation gets to redefine ‘what should technology do for us?’” says Treff. “That is what is constantly forcing us as designers to embrace the question of how technology can improve the balance between function and form.”
