Why do you love the Cape?

As a child, I vacationed on Cape Cod from Long Island. I associate Cape Cod with those nostalgic memories of family vacations — the beaches, clam shacks, jeep rides on the Provincetown dunes. Seeing as we are now empty nesters, my husband and I wanted to relocate to a place our adult children would enjoy visiting. With two of our three children living as far away as California and Australia, we needed a fabulous location to make their long flights worthwhile. Cape Cod is a spot that we all love, and it brings the family together.

Beyond the family appeal of life on Cape Cod, it made sense for my interior design business. The homes here are inspiring, from the craftsmanship to the natural setting. The coastal environment, with its views, climate and topography, dictates a different approach to lighting, color, materials and other elements in my design toolkit.

How is designing a seasonal home different?

Second/vacation homes offer clients the opportunity to go “rogue." I can encourage them to go in different design directions than they might otherwise go in their main residences. I have had the pleasure of working with many repeat clients on their homes both on the Cape and in their primary residences. It is exciting from a creativity standpoint to challenge my clients to adopt different design aesthetics that feel fresh and fun. I love to express and elevate their style preferences in different, yet always tasteful, ways.

What do you like about the Cape Cod community?

I worked in and around Boston for many years and served on the board of design organizations. Developing relationships with builders and artisans is an integral part of my business. As a former lawyer, I am very detail-oriented and believe that team dynamics are critical to a successful job.  I am now a member of HBRACC (the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod) which allows me to connect with the many talented builders and tradespeople in the area.

I also find the realtors in the area to be impressive and am happy to assist them when showing buyers a potential property, and in deciding if the property will fulfill the buyers’ dreams and desires. The Agency, a real estate office in Osterville, does a great job and I have enjoyed getting to know their realtors.

Favorite place to shop on the Cape?

I love Day Off - a lifestyle boutique selling homewares and women’s clothing in Mashpee Commons. Architectural design and moving walls is an important part of my interior design work, but I also love pulling together that final layer of accessories to create that “wow” moment at the install. I always know I can find something a client will love there!
