Salty bay breezes and a lush native greenscape encircle this idyllic Cape Cod retreat overlooking the North Bay. Designed to flow with the main home and newly built cabana, the outdoor living space came alive with Mulcahy Design Group’s exterior amenity concept. “The goal was to create a cohesive exterior design that would tie in the existing house and pool to the newly constructed cabana,” says Thomas Mulcahy, President of Mulcahy Design Group.

Like many Cape Cod residents, the homeowners desired an intimate year-round retreat that would also support larger gatherings in the summertime. With a seamless flow to and from the cabana and main home, the expanded pool deck and upper dining terrace provide ample space for entertaining.

Dedicated areas for a cozy firepit and an outdoor kitchen offer functional enclaves within the space. The outdoor kitchen is built into the walls of the stone terrace, with a perfectly placed herb garden adjacent to both the terrace and main house entry.

The symmetrical pool deck was designed to tie in the newly built cabana to the existing pool, and to maximize poolside lounging space. Off of the cabana, a wood deck inlay serves as a design solution for proper drainage that also adds texture and interest. The cabana features an outdoor shower with intricate stone details installed by Cape Cod Cornerstone and floor-to-ceiling nano doors.

“A lot of my projects are conservation related,” says Mulcahy. “It is important that the natural landscape seamlessly transitions with the built environment." With a portion of the property on conservation land, native plantings were added to restore existing meadows and pathways to enhance the wildlife corridor, ensuring the coastal retreat exists in harmony with the stunning natural site for years to come.
