Challenges
New England Shutter Mills built shutters that were questionably the largest ever constructed in a functional commercial space: sizing at 4-feet wide and 11-feet tall. They maximized the Hudson River views by using 5-1/2 louvers in order to reduce horizontal obstruction. Additionally, they expanded the width of the panels to 48 inches to reduce vertical obstructions and built the shutter 133 inches tall. This allowed for the homeowners to nearly feel as if they could reach out and touch the river.

Unique Features/Design
In order to accomplish building the wide and tall spans, NE Shutter Mills used lumber that was edge grained and edge glued – boards were ripped into long strips, rotated, and finally edge glued; a similar process to constructing a laminated beam. This technique solved both designing and constructing the shutters with the customer’s visual impact, as well as, the strength and durability required by the architect in mind.

Above and Beyond
New England Shutter Mills took on the project knowing the location was 125 miles from their facility in order to meet the needs of their client. The custom shutters were made 1/5 of their size and sprayed with waterborne lacquer to match the exquisite furniture expectable at a 5-star restaurant. NE Shutter Mills successfully completed the task exceeding all client and architect expectations while offering the same warranty they always offer. Nothing was compromised.
