An Afternoon with Sacha Lakic at Roche Bobois

Boston Design Guide spent the afternoon chatting with Sacha Lakic, the ingenious French designer behind some of Roche Bobois‘ most iconic pieces.

The Synopsis sofa, the Speed Up sideboard, the Scenario sofa and the Bubble sofa are all Lakic’s beautifully-engineered creations, and he has won several awards as well as global recognition for this work.

The Scenario sofa features movable back cushions, letting you alter the shape of the piece for different events or occasions.

Lakic, the “Master of Motion,” has always been fascinated by speed and movement, and began his design career in the showrooms of Peugeot, Alain Carre, and eventually MBK-Yamaha, where he made his mark on everything from concept bikes to mass-produced models. Lakic later opened his own showroom, and began designing motorbikes, furniture, watches, and fashion accessories.

The Synopsis sofa reclines and a headrest extends, providing the ultimate relaxation spot. 

With Roche Bobois, Lakic is able to use his creativity and imagination to design furniture that is dynamic and forward-thinking, and inspired by the futuristic motorbikes he finds beautiful and fascinating.

Lakic uses this fascination to create beautifully-engineered furniture that is modern but also exceptionally comfortable. He has an eye for harmony, and ensures that even the smallest details look extraordinary, like the stitching and fabric.
